Today, we'll take a closer look at the top three recruits of this class: QB Dylan Raiola, WR Jeremiah Smith, and EDGE Rusher Colin Simmons.
Dylan Raiola, hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, has committed to Georgia University. Raiola has impressive verified numbers, standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 228 pounds. With 9.5-inch hands, Raiola has excellent ball security and control. One of his most impressive skills is his ability to drive the ball with velocity regardless of the weather conditions, thanks to his impeccable mechanics and lower body weight transfer. Raiola has a fluid throwing motion that does not possess any flaws or hitches. He also possesses the ability to utilize touch on the ball, making him a versatile quarterback. Raiola's growth will continue as he faces different defenses and coverages, but we have no doubt that he has the potential to evolve into a top-tier playmaker.
Jeremiah Smith, from Opa Locka, Florida, has committed to Ohio State University. Smith is one of the most talented wide receiver prospects to come out of South Florida in recent history. He can beat a defense over the top one play and then box defenders out in the corner of the end zone the next. Smith has filled out nicely over the past year and could eventually carry 215 pounds or more. He is a spirited route runner that uses his long stride to gain yardage before sinking his hips and getting in and out of his breaks. He is extremely competitive at the catch point and has the strength to overpower defensive backs. Smith's ability to play above the shoulder pads and his ferocious release make him a potential WR1 for a College Football Playoff regular.
Colin Simmons, from Duncanville, Texas, has committed to Louisiana State University. Simmons had an outstanding junior year in 2022, helping lead Duncanville to a 15-0 record and the Class 6A-Division I state championship. He was named the Dallas Morning News Defensive Player of the Year, and his 22.5 sacks broke the Duncanville school record. Simmons was also named the Texas Sportswriters Association (TSWA) Class 6A Defensive Player of the Year. In 2021, he was the Texas District 11-6A Sophomore MVP, and as a freshman in 2020, he primarily played sub-varsity. Simmons is a dominant edge rusher with impressive speed and strength. His accolades speak for themselves, and he has the potential to become one of the best edge rushers in college football.
We at Elite 7v7 are thrilled with the college choices of these three recruits. Each player has chosen a prestigious university with a storied football program. We believe that their skills will continue to develop in these programs, and they will become top-tier players in the NCAA. However, we are a little disappointed that there are no running backs in the top three recruits of the 2024 graduating class. Running backs are an integral part of the game, and we hope to see some standout players in this position in the coming years.
